The two-day meeting at the Omni Charlottesville Hotel, beginning at 1 p.m. today, will include speeches and sessions aimed at setting up a permanent statewide structure.
The 55 delegates also are expected to discuss what role the potentially influential organization will take in the fall elections for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.
"I don't think there'll be an outright organizational endorsement," said Tom Overocker, who is stepping down as Virginia director of United We Stand America to become Southeast regional coordinator for the group.
But Overocker said the Perot enthusiasts may well take a role similar to one they assumed in a recent U.S. Senate election in Texas. There, the Perot group polled members for preferences and announced the results, apparently helping to sway the election.
Spurred by the fall elections here, Virginia is in a race with Florida to see which state will become the first nationally to get its United We Stand America charter, he said.
General convention sessions will be open to the public.
University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato will be the keynote speaker, and a panel moderated by Sabato will include House Majority Leader Richard Cranwell, D-Vinton, and House Minority Leader Vance Wilkins, R-Amherst.
