GIVE IT A REST

By now, practically all of us have heard the story of Tina Turner, the soul shouter who overcame a tough marriage to bad guy Ike Turner and became a megastar in her own right.

We've read her autobiography, ``What's Love Got to Do With It,'' danced to her hit song of the same name and seen the movie based on the book.

The rags-to-riches, victim-to-conquerer quality of the story is compelling. Turner is a good example to marital abuse victims everywhere.

Truthfully, though, it's about time for her to move on with her life. Will she be able to?

Not if the allegedly wife-beating, drug-abusing Ike has anything to do with it. This week's People magazine includes a photo of the 62-year-old bandleader with his 30-year-old girlfriend, and reports that he is hoping to issue a new collection of songs and to write his own book, with the tentative title, ``That's What Love's Got to Do With It.''

Enough already.
