BURGS BEAT PULASKI IN DIXIE BASEBALL

The Burgs will be going to Buckingham.

The Dixie Youth baseball team that represents Christiansburg and Blacksburg defeated Pulaski 6-3 Wednesday in the finals of the Dixie Major (ages 15-18) tournament at Calfee Park.

The Burgs snapped a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

L.J. Hensel singled, stole second and scored on a single by Jody Dickerson. Dickerson later came home on an error. And Hensel allowed only one run while pitching the final five innings for the victory.

The Burgs next see action in the state tournament, Friday through July 28 in Buckingham.

Rain continued to plague the Dixie Pre-Majors (ages 15-16) and Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) tournaments Thursday.

In both tournaments, the first game of the night was suspended when rain turned the infields into mud and made the outfield grass slick.

The tournaments were scheduled to conclude Friday night, weather permitting.

At Loving Field, Radford was to play the winner of the Floyd County-Grayson County contest for the Dixie Boys title.

At Calfee Park, Radford was to meet the victor of the Floyd County-Pulaski game for the Dixie Pre-Majors championship.
