ANIMAL-CONTROL ASSISTANT HIRED

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors hired a new assistant animal control officer following a closed-door session Monday night.

Harvey E. Waddell Sr., a former employee of the Virginia Tech veterinary school, was picked for the job, which carries a starting salary of $14,319.

Besides working as an agricultural research technician at the vet school, Waddell has worked since as a farm manager and farm maintenance supervisor.

He has experience with all kinds of animals, including livestock and smaller animals such as dogs, County Administrator Betty Thomas said.

Waddell is taking classes in wildlife and forestry conservation, Thomas said.
