LAWMAKER DENIES CLAIMS BY BIKE GROUP

State Sen. Robert Russell denied Friday the charges of a bicycle racing booster group that he gave his cyclist son the group's money and that he refused to turn over financial records.

"I look forward to seeing all the facts put on the table in the full light of day before a jury," Russell, R-Chesterfield, said at a Capitol news conference.

Keith B. Marcus, the group's attorney, said Russell gave his son Thomas $5,600 without telling other board members, opposed an audit of the money raised and has refused to turn over the financial records since he was removed as treasurer Jan. 13.

Russell said that as founder, treasurer and chief fund-raiser for Richmond Velo Sports, he didn't need approval from anyone to make loans to support his 19-year-old son's training. - Associated Press
