R. MITCHELL RATLIFF SR., executive director of Roanoke law firm Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove, has announced his retirement effective in September.
Ratliff joined the firm as executive director in 1989. In addition to overseeing the general management of the company's business activities during his four-year tenure, Ratliff managed the procurement, design and installation of the firm's computer and telephone systems, including training of personnel on the new systems. He also was responsible for the design, construction and move to the firm's new office space in the Dominion Tower.
He plans to work as a consultant to law firms while raising beef cattle on his farm in Bedford County.
ACCOUNTING
\ DALLAS BRUNK has joined H. Schwarz & Co. of Roanoke as a principal and director of accounting and auditing services. He previously worked as a senior audit manager with KPMG Peat Marwick in Roanoke.
ARCHITECTURE
\ WILLIAM D. CRAIG has been promoted to vice president and director of the health-care division at Sheretz Franklin Crawford Shaffner Inc., a Roanoke firm of architects and engineers. He formerly worked as a senior project manager.
BANKING
\ H. WATTS STEGAR III, president of the Bank of Buchanan, has been elected chairman of the board of the Virginia Bankers' Bank. Located in Richmond and owned by 52 community banks, the bank offers its members bank services such as loan participations and check clearing.
\ JAMES D. COCKEY has been appointed vice president in the commercial banking group at NationsBank in Roanoke. He has been with the bank since since 1988, as a commercial banking officer in Lynchburg and Pulaski.
COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
\ EDWARD E. HARRIMAN JR. has been appointed director of major gifts at Ferrum College. He formerly worked as director of corporate and foundation relations at Hollins College, where he was responsible for all corporate, foundation and government giving programs. He also managed all proposal writing and the Friends Fund of the Annual Fund.
COMPUTER SERVICES
\ DAVID M. WINANT has been named manager of the CCS Data Station Computer Service Center in Christiansburg. His responsibilities include supervising the service center staff, maintaining vendor certifications and overseeing repairs, customer relations and hardware and software training. He also will serve as a project team member for new product development. He formerly worked as a network consultant for The DataGroup of Atlanta.
GOVERNMENT
\ RITA GLINIECKI, chairman of the board of directors of Blue Ridge Community Services, has been appointed to the Governor's Task Force on Consumer Involvement. The task force will study the extent to which consumers of mental health services and their families participate in the planning and implementation of those services.
MEDICINE
\ DR. STEPHEN L. McNEIL has become associated with the Department of Psychiatric Medicine at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals. He also will work in affiliation with the adolescent program at St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital in Radford. He is certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and will provide outpatient treatment at at 213 McClanahan St., Roanoke.
\ DR. MICHAEL DONATO has become a partner with Emergency Room Associates. He practices at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.
