Hostesses for the reception following the ceremony were Gynetha Conway, of Newport News, sister-in-law of the groom, and Mary Buffkin, of Crossville, Tenn., sister of the groom.

Carol is the daughter of Pauline and Adolphus J. Mattox, of Salem. James is the son of Nancy and James Combs, of Roanoke County, and the late Major Howard V. Conway, USAF. He is the grandson of the late Mrs. Moffett W. Eldridge, of Roanoke City.

The newlyweds are both graduates of Virginia Western Community College with degrees in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology. They plan to reside in Roanoke.
