TRI-COUNTY EDGES SOUTH 10-8

Tri-County Post 145 survived a ninth-inning rally and beat Roanoke Post 3 South 10-8 in American Legion baseball Saturday at Fries.

Dirk Hill went 4-for-5 with five RBI, including a two-run triple and a two-run homer. B.W. Hill (3-0) got the win and went 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Kevin DeHaven and Randy Blevins each had two hits.

Tri-County (7-7) led 10-2 in the top of the ninth, but South scored five runs without anyone getting an out. James Wyatt came in to end the rally and got save after a fly-ball out, a ground out and a strikeout to end the game.

Scott Fayed went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI for Roanoke (3-8). Tony Russell and Brad Wright added two hits each.

In another legion game at Stuart, David Webster went the distance and struck out eight in a two-hitter as Rocky Mount Post 6 defeated Patrick County 8-2.

Ricky Young added a two-run homer for Rocky Mount (5-9). Both Patrick County runs were unearned.
