HOME SALES UP FOR MAY

Home sales across Virginia rose 11.3 percent in May, according to a new report by the Virginia Association of Realtors.

The Richmond-based trade group said its members logged the largest monthly sales increase so far this year, placing 6,199 homes under contract. That figure compares to 5,566 homes sold in May 1992.

Year-to-date sales totaled 26,712, down 6.9 percent compared with 28,701 home sales in the first five months of 1992, the VAR reported.

"Indicators are strong that we are achieving thr right mix of positive factors: economy, confidence and interest rates and employment," said VAR president Edward E. Pagett.
