BOWER JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPION AGAIN

Tim Bower of Floyd won a gold medal for the second straight year in the Commonwealth Games of Virginia junior golf competition at Hanging Rock Golf Club.

Bower, who won a gold in the 15-16 age group last year, fired a 4-under-par 69 to top the 17-18 class by one shot. Bower, who had a 5-under 31 on the back nine, had a 2-under 144 total for 36 holes.

Ryan Ketron of Roanoke double-bogeyed the final hole to shoot 74 for the silver at 145. Andy Miller of Troutville won the bronze.

Brian Hill, a rising junior at Northside, shot his second straight 71 to win the gold in the 15-16 age bracket. Scott Griffin of Troutville was second, and Nick Varney of Roanoke was third.

In the 13-14 group, Roanoker Jason Orlando took the gold with a 155 total. Christiansburg's Tommy Lesperance won the silver, and Kirk Straughen took the bronze.

Lee Taylor of Roanoke won the 11-12 class with a 153 total. Trey Clower was the silver medalist, and Ryan Patterson took the bronze.

Wytheville's Joannah Pattison won the girls' gold with a 168 total. Melissa Topping took the silver, and Elizabeth Craighead earned the bronze.
