FIELDCREST CHARGED WITH CURBING UNION

The National Labor Relations Board has charged Fieldcrest Cannon with several violations related to restricting union activities in six plants, including one in Virginia.

The charges include preventing employees from talking about union activities, soliciting employees to report the union activities of others, harassing union members and firing one worker because of union involvement.

Fieldcrest officials deny the charges. A hearing will be held Oct. 4.

If found guilty, Eden, N.C.-based Fieldcrest, which has a towel mill in Henry County, faces injunctions and an order to reinstate the fired employee with back pay. - Associated Press
