LOCAL COMPETITORS ARE TRACK WINNERS

Joselyn Travis and Terrance Smith won state titles at the Virginia Hershey's Youth Track Meet July 10-11 at the University of Virginia.

Both represeted the Town of Pulaski Parks and Recreation Department. Travis captured the girls 9-10 standing long jump with a leap of 7 feet, 7 inches. That jump was two inches longer than the jump that won the national title last year.

Smith won the boys 9-10 100 meters with a time of 14.2 seconds.

Travis and Smith may have qualified for the national meet, Aug. 15-19 in Hershey, Pa., with their winning efforts. The top performances from a 10-state region are selected for the national meet.

Others from Pulaski who fared well in the state meet include Daniel Goff, runner-up in the boys 11-12 800 meters (2 minutes, 40 seconds); Katrina Williams, runner-up in the girls 11-12 800 meters (2:48); Toni Wright, third place in the girls 13-14 standing long jump (7-7); and Susan Stoneman, third place in the girls 11-12 200 meters (30.80).
