2 KILLED AS PLANE CRASHES INTO WOODS

Two people died Tuesday when their small plane crashed in western Clarke County, state police said.

The plane went down in a wooded area off Virginia 672 near the Frederick County line about 5:45 p.m., police said.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane looping in the air and stalling before it hit the ground and burst into flames.

The two victims - whose names had not been released - were the only ones in the craft, police said.

The fire spread over about two acres before it was extinguished, Clarke County fire and rescue officials said.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on the scene Tuesday night. - Associated Press
