PARKS DEPARTMENT WINS RECOGNITION

The U.S. Interior Department has presented the Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation with a Volunteer Service Award certificate for its participation in the 1992-93 "Take Pride in America" program.

The certificate, signed by Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, cites the department for "outstanding commitment to the stewardship of America's public lands and natural and cultural resources."

In a letter accompanying the certificate, Babbitt said there would be no award ceremony this year because the "Take Pride in America" program is being discontinued for budgetary reasons.

The town recreation department had received a "Take Pride In America" plaque from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation for its "Dare To Care About Christiansburg" and its park maintenance programs. Virginia winners went to the interior department for national judging.
