OBIT JOHNSON, SALLIE KATHLEEN NANCE

JOHNSON, Sallie Kathleen Nance, of Roanoke, died Thursday, July 22, 1993, at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. She was the widow of Harry Graves Johnson. Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Johnson Williams; son-in-law, Cranston Williams Jr.; her son, Harry Graves Johnson Jr.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Snyder Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Virginia Nance Childress and Mrs. Lula Nance Hannabass, all of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Ellen J. Candler, Ann Claire J. Shepherd, William W. Johnson, all of Roanoke, Sally Warner Williams, Chapel Hill, N.C., Cranston Reade Williams, Arlington; and five great-grandchildren. A school teacher before marriage, she was a member of the 1917 class of Longwood College in Farmville, Va. As a very active church member and worker for 60 years at Virginia Heights Baptist Church, she taught classes at her church and served as a circle leader and officer. She was an avid gardener and garden club member and enjoyed many hobbies. A private family graveside service and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Virginia Heights Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Virginia Heights Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 2014 Memorial Ave., SW, Roanoke, Va. 24015.
