ART MUSEUM HOLDS TRIBUTE TO POPEYE

The Art Museum of Western Virginia will celebrate Popeye's 60th birthday today with the opening of its exhibit, ``Toon Time.''

The exhibit consists of drawings, storyboards, videos and cels - short for celluloids, the final step in creating animated film. It will also highlight the blending of science and art in producing cartoons.

Popeye's birthday party will be held in the first floor galleries of the museum in Roanoke's Center in the Square from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission at $3 for adults and $2 for children. Refreshments will be provided, and children's drawing and animation activities will be ongoing.
