CAVE SPRING ALL-STARS WIN IN STATE OPENER

The Cave Spring American Little League 13-year-old All-Stars won their first game in the state tournament Saturday in Woodbridge, defeating Richlands 12-4.

Pitcher Justin Dowdy was in control all seven innings, limiting Richlands to six hits. Cave Spring's aggressive base running led to most of its runs.

The team plays today against Louisa.

Ryan Blevins' pitching and Kelly Dampeer's home runs led Roanoke Post 3 West to a 14-1 victory over Tri-County Post 145 in American Legion baseball on Saturday at Galax. The game ended after seven innings because of the 10-run "slaughter" rule.

Blevins (3-0), a right-hander, pitched the victory, striking out six and allowing six hits in seven innings. At the plate, he went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI.

Dampeer went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI for Post 3 West (10-7); Dampeer has hit four home runs in two days. Jason Anderson hit two doubles, and Eric East and David Henderson had two hits each.
