TECH PLAYER HELPS EAST'S OLYMPIC FESTIVAL WIN

Jenny Root, a second-team All-Metro Conference basketball player for Virginia Tech last season, helped the East team defeat the North 81-76 in overtime on Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in San Antonio, Texas.

Root, a rising junior from Pensacola, Fla., scored seven points, hitting three of seven field-goal attempts and her only free throw. The East led 32-25 at halftime, and the score was 67-67 at halftime.

The East plays the West team today at 6 p.m.
