SALVATION ARMY SEEKING AID FOR VICTIMS OF MIDWEST FLOODS

The Salvation Army has expanded efforts to help victims of flooding in the Midwest and is seeking donations of cash, bottled water, nonperishable foods, first-aid and cleaning supplies, flat shovels and other items.

The organization also would like baby food and disposable diapers

The Salvation Army already has fed more than 140,000 people and housed nearly 800 people who have been displaced by flooding of the Mississippi River and its tributaries.

New River Valley residents who would like to donate money, food or other items should call Sgt. Tom Atkins at 980-2400.

The Salvation Army will arrange for later transportation of donated items.

Cash donations will be forwarded right away.
