VIRGINIA STILL MIGHT LURE MERCEDES PLANT

Virginia still has a chance of luring a Mercedes-Benz automobile plant to a site in Warren County, the director of the state Department of Economic Development said.

April Young said land near the Virginia Inland Port is the only Virginia site still being studied by the German automaker for the $300 million plant, to employ about 1,500.

Two North Carolina business journals reported last week that Mercedes Benz had narrowed its search to sites in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

Mercedes started with a list of 150 sites in 30 states. Young said more than 10 but fewer than 50 sites are still in the running. A site is expected to be picked by September. - Associated Press
