TECH PROFESSOR `WILL' SHEPHERD DIES

William E. "Will' Shepherd, an associate professor of landscape architecture at Virginia Tech, died Monday. He was 56.

Shepherd, of Blacksburg, directed the college's Community Design Assistance Center, which hires students to assist Southwest Virginia communities with planning and design projects.

He came to the university as a visiting professor in 1986 and was named to the full-time faculty the following year.

He was involved in a research project assessing the environmental impact of a proposed Appalachian Power Co. power line and in several U.S. Forest Service scenic byway projects.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel. McCoy Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
