OBIT LEWEY, HARRY PAUL
LEWEY, Harry Paul, 66, of 1102 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski, died Monday night,
July 26, 1993, in the Radford Community Hospital. He was born December 17,
1926, in Pulaski, and was the son of the late Hoge Monroe and Sally Ann
(Lewey) Lewey. A graduate of Pulaski High School, he received a B.S. degree
from the School of Pharmacy of the Medical College of Virginia. From 1951 to
1955, Mr. Lewey was employed as a pharmacist in Blacksburg and in Princeton,
W.Va. Then in November of 1955, he and two business associates established
Pulaski Drugs in Pulaski. Subsequently, they purchased Dublin Pharmacy in
Dublin, Virginia, in August of 1956, and in June of 1961, they opened Medical
Arts Pharmacy in Pulaski. Mr. Lewey was a member of the Board of the Pulaski
Retail Credit Association and of the Pulaski County and Virginia Heart
Associations. He belonged to the American and Virginia State Pharmaceutical
Association and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Southwest Virginia
Pharmaceutical Association. Fraternally, he held membership in Kappa Psi, Rho
Chi, and Sigma Zeta. During World War II, Mr. Lewey was on active duty with
the United States Army from March of 1945, until January of 1947, and he was
discharged with the grade of Sergeant, having seen duty in the Philippines and
Korea. Mr. Lewey was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served
on the Staff Support, Evangelism, Stewardship and Finance Committees.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Lewey, Pulaski; one daughter, Linda L. Woodside,
Greenwood, S.C.; one son, Sanders B. Collins III, Newport News; one sister,
Miss Hallie Lewey, Pulaski; one brother, Carl W. Lewey, Roanoke; two
sisters-in-law, Margaret K. Lewey, Pulaski, Virginia S. Lewey, Roanoke; two
grandchildren, Stephen C. Woodside, Greenwood, S.C., Patrick G. Collins,
Newport News. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the
Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steven Ridenhour and Rev. Auburn Bowers
officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visiting will be
Wednesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials
be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski. Arrangements by Stevens
