ETC. BASKETBALL FEATURED AT U.S. OLYMPIC FESTIVAL

At San Antonio, Texas, basketball was the top attraction on the schedule as the U.S. Olympic Festival entered its sixth day of competition.

In men's basketball, the North won its second straight festival gold medal by beating the West 106-96. Derek Anderson of Ohio State scored 20 points and Duane Spencer of Georgetown had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the North (4-0).

Burt Harris of Southern Cal scored 21 for the West, whose two losses both came against the North.

In women's play, the South women got 14 points and five assists from Donyale Canada of Texas A&M to beat the East 72-55 in the title game. The South wound up 4-0 and the East 2-2.

Virginia Tech's Jenny Root scored two points for the East.

In the bronze medal games, the South men beat the East 116-101 and the North women beat the West 74-71 in overtime.
