RIVER COMMITTEE GETS GREENWAY GRANT

The National Committee for the New River has been awarded a $32,500 grant from the Virginia Environmental Endowment to develop a greenway plan along the New River in Giles County. Greenways are linear open space areas along natural or manmade corridors such as rivers and railroad beds.

The National Committee for the New River is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and improving the environmental and cultural qualities of the New River throughout its watershed in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. The local office is at 2807 S. Main St. Call 552-3497.
