Connections is seeking foster homes for pre- and teen-age girls and boys and pregnant teens.
The agency serves children of all ages, but there is a special need for foster families with children 12 and older.
Connections is a private, non-profit agency that serves children who have been neglected or abused, and, as a result, have special emotional or behavioral needs. Training will be provided for foster parents. For more information, call 342-0411.
Cooperative to hold annual meeting Aug. 5
The election of local board members and Farm Home Advisory Committee members will take place Aug. 5 during the annual membership meeting for Southern States Roanoke Cooperative, Southern States Roanoke Cooperative-Salem Branch and Southern States Roanoke Cooperative-Troutville Branch.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be at Northside High School.
Board nominees are H.N. Barnhart Jr., Glen Clingenpeel, Jerry Henderson and Peter D. Sprinkle.
The advisory committee slate consists of Pat Coleman and Doris Stevens.
Nominees for delegates to Election District F are H.N. Barnhart Jr., Mike Beahm and John Etzler IV.
Telephone Pioneers hold sports jamboree
The AT&T and C&P Telephone Pioneers will sponsor a sports jamboree for the visually impaired and people in wheelchairs on Friday and Saturday at Camp Virginia Jaycees near Montvale.
The competition, which will feature air rifle, softball, bicycling and basketball shooting, is open to ages 12-20.

DAR chapter restores courthouse records
The General James Breckinridge Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution recently paid for the restoration of old courthouse records in Franklin County.
The volume, Marriage Register I of Franklin County, which contained more than 300 pages, was rebound, and the pages were put in plastic sleeves. The chapter has restored 10 court record books in Franklin County since 1983, as well as books in Bedford, Lunenburg and Roanoke County. The chapter uses proceeds from its annual antiques show to pay for restoring courthouserecord.
Masonic lodge elects officers for 1993-94
The Alleghany Dunbar Lodge 109 F. & A. Masons has elected officers for the 1993-94 term.
James C. Taylor was elected worshipful master. Other officers include Donnell Freeman Jr., senior warden; James A. Sawyer, junior warden; Robert R. Johnson, treasurer; William W. Taborn Jr., secretary; William C. Keen, senior deacon; Sherman Taylor, junior deacon; Bobby Muse, chaplain; Frank Robinson, marshall; George Berry, senior steward; and Llewellyn Thompson, junior steward.
Roanoker appointed to district Elks post
Steve Nelson of Roanoke has been appointed District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the 197th lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The Elks have 250 districts in the United States.
As a district deputy, Nelson will work with the national Elks leader in promoting and coordinating charity, scholarship, drug awareness, veterans and patriotism programs.
Program seeks homes for exchange students
The EF Educational Homestay Programs, a non-profit organization, is bringing a group of Spanish exchange students to the Roanoke area in August.
The organization is looking for volunteers to house the students for the 1993-94 school year. For information on being a host family, contact Ruby Cockran at 890-4671.
Roanoke College offers grant for adult students
Roanoke College has established a new grant for adult students.
Students who are seeking diplomas, are 25 years old prior to the first day of classes and enrolled in two units for the semester are eligible for the grant.
The grant will equal half the tuition for the second unit. In addition to the adult student grant, the students may be eligible for federal financial aid or for tuition reimbursement from their employers.
Tuition for one unit of credit for a part-time student is $630. Students receiving this grant would be charged $315 for the second unit of credit per semester. The grant is administered automatically to qualifying students.

AMVETS officers also named to state posts
Several recently elected officers of the Gary L. Francisco Memorial AMVETS Post 89 in Salem have been elected to state offices and to the state executive committee.
Robert Mitchell, who was recently elected commander of the Salem post, was elected state finance officer.
William Capps, senior vice commander, was elected state chaplain; and Claude (Bud) Stump Jr., junior vice commander was elected to the state finance committee. Enid Anderson, adjutant and finance officer, was named alternate national executive committeeman; and William Martin, service officer, was named president of the state Service Foundation.
Donate a car and get help with paperwork for taxes
The Roanoke office of the Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services, a division of the the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, is looking for reliable used cars to give to newly arrived refugee families.
The resettlement agency will help those donating cars with the paperwork for tax purposes.
