PANEL ENDORSES GINSBURG 18-0

Even the Republicans were referring to her as "Justice" Thursday, as the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to recommend Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Supreme Court.

"The president made the right choice," declared committee Chairman Joseph Biden, D-Del., after the 18-0 vote. Biden and ranking committee Republican Orrin Hatch, Utah, said they hoped the full Senate would vote to confirm Ginsburg "as soon as possible," at least before the end of next week when the Senate is scheduled to recess.

Committee members praised the intellect and fair-mindedness that Ginsburg, 60, showed during three days of hearings last week.

"She is a judge's judge," said Sen. Howard Metzenbaum, D-Ohio.
