DESSERT CONCERT AIDS SHELTER

Blacksburg singer Catherine Breske will be the featured performer at an outdoor dessert concert with a musical trio in Elizabeth Brown Park on Aug. 14 to raise money for a spouse-abuse center.

The Family Resource Center, which lost its shelter for abused women and children to a fire last year, has continued to serve victims of abuse and sexual assault in temporary quarters until it can build a new shelter.

Money raised by the concert will be used to supplement grant funding. Contributions up to $50,000 are being matched by a grant from General Injectables & Vaccines in Bastian.

Breske has performed in theater arts productions and as a guest artist at dinner concerts for years.

She has sung with the New Virginians; Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble; the Inaugural Entertainment Company, which performed for President Reagan at the Kennedy Center Inaugural Ball; and in several national television appearances.

Desserts and coffee will be served at 7:30 p.m. The concert starts at 8:15. Reserved seats at candle-lit tables are $15. General admission is $10 and purchasers should bring their own chairs.

Tickets are on sale at Words & Music cafe, Photo USA and the Wythe County Circuit Court clerk's office, or by calling 228-5644.

Door prizes for drawings at intermission are provided by Reed House Interiors, Tiny Tim's Treasures & Gifts and Scrooge's Restaurant.
