MARTINSVILLE MAN CHARGED IN KILLING

A Martinsville man was killed early Saturday after a night of partying at a Patrick County home ended with a fight and gunshots, the county's sheriff said.

Paul Jones "Doodle" Hodges Jr., 21, was shot in the head after eight to 10 people spilled out onto the lawn at the home of Monica Hodges of Patrick Springs, Sheriff Jay Gregory said. The two Hodges are not related.

Jeffrey Dwayne Kirks, 20, of Martinsville was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting, Gregory said. Kirks, who was released later Saturday after posting $65,000 bond, turned himself in to authorities.

Also arrested was Dwayne Dale Ray, 19, of Bassett. He was charged with being an accessory after the fact, Gregory said. Ray was being held Saturday night in the Patrick County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
