But look a little deeper and you'll find a richly diverse religious mixture.
Sure, most of the major Protestant denominations and Catholicism are represented, but there are lots of others. There is a thriving Jewish religious community, an Islamic congregation, a Zen Buddhist Zendo, Baha'is, an ECKANKAR group.
As the population center for Western Virginia, the Roanoke Valley also is the regional headquarters for more than a dozen denominations.

The Child Evangelism Fellowship (344-8696), a non-denominational group that brings the gospel to children in their own neighborhoods.
Industrial and Commercial Ministries (703-265-1837), an interdenominational group that trains ministers and lay volunteers to serve as chaplains in local industries and companies.
The Pastoral Counseling Center (343-5455), which provides individual, marriage and family counseling with a sliding-scale fee system.
Others include Roanoke Area Ministries (345-8850) and Women's Aglow (774-1478), a Christian women's organization. The Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship (366-3882) is a Pentecostal men's group.
