The Art Museum of Western Virginia's Camp Comics, set for Monday through Friday at the Roanoke museum, will hear from internationally recognized illustrator and comic-book artist Charles Vess.
Vess, who was the 1990 winner of the Ink Pot award for excellence in comics and is a contributor to D.C. Comics and Marvel Comics, will join artists Jimmy Deck and Gary Bryant. Writer Rebekah Woodie also will assist in the children's camp.

\ Showtimers auditions
Showtimers, Roanoke's community theater group, will hold auditions for ``Blithe Spirit'' and ``Nunsense'' in August.
``Blithe Spirit'' auditions are set for Aug. 6-7 from 1-6 p.m. Cast requirements are two men, ages 40-60 and five women between 18 and 65. For more information, call the director, Jim Galloway, at 342-5098.
``Nunsense'' auditions will be Aug. 21-22 from 2-6 p.m. Cast requirements call for five women, ages 18 and up. For further information, call the producer, Anne Shannon, at 563-9843.
Both auditions will be held at the Showtimers Studio on McVitty Road in Roanoke.
\ Lecture scheduled
The Harrison Museum of African American Culture and Carilion Health Systems will present an interpretative lecture on the Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn., and its impact on the black community.
Carolyn Hamberg, director of the Meharry Medical College Library, will speak at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the museum's Jayne H. Thomas Auditorium. The museum is at 523 Harrison Ave. N.W., Roanoke.
