RADFORD HIGH'S CLASS OF '44 STARTS EARLY ON ITS 50TH REUNION

Radford High School's Class of 1944 is planning its 50th REUNION.

The theme will be "Together Again." Reunion committee co-Chairwoman Mary Jane Harmon of the Radford Senior Center says this will be the class's sixth reunion. The committee is hoping to hold the event next July. Dot Reck is the other co-chairwoman.

As with any reunion, there's always a missing-persons list. The committee is trying to find fellow alumni Gene Albert, Elsie Catron, Jim Howe and Florence Middleton.

Call Marie Hypes, 381-2367, or Mary Jane Harmon, 731-3624, if you have any information about these people.

By the way, one class of '44 member who won't be hard to find is Roanoke Times & World-News columnist Ben Beagle.

There's less than a month left to register for the 1993 LEGACY QUILT SHOW in September.

Forms are available at the Christiansburg Senior Center, but you do not have to be a senior to participate.

The show is restricted to quilts, quilted items, quilting supplies or merchandise related to quilting. There's a category for antique quilts. A set of show rules is attached to the registration form.

Completed forms should be returned by Aug. 27 to the Christiansburg Senior Center, P.O. Box 599, Christiansburg 24073, or to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, P.O. Box 806, Christiansburg 24073.

The show will be Sept. 11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at the National Guard Armory, College and Depot streets. Call 382-8173 or 382-5775.

Friday is the last day to enter the 15th annual New River Community College POETRY CONTEST for seniors age 60 or older.

Poems should not be more than 60 lines long, but you may submit up to three poems.

Ten winners will be picked from Montgomery, Pulaski, Floyd and Giles counties and Radford. One winner will be selected from outside those areas. Winners get a plaque and a booklet of the poems submitted for the contest. An awards reception will be held in late September.

Seniors who have a way with words should submit their original, unpublished works to: Poetry, Office of Continuing Education, New River Community College, Box 1127, Dublin 24084.
