WOUNDING CHARGED IN BRANDING

A Blacksburg man has been charged with malicious wounding after police said he branded a young boy with a hot medallion.

The incident occurred Thursday at the victim's home.

Lee Evans Webb May, 18, allegedly placed a pentagram necklace that he had heated with a lighter on the 11-year-old victim's lower back while another juvenile held the boy down.

Police haven't established a motive, but said the incident was not related to the occult or any ritualistic practice.

The victim received medical treatment for a second-degree burn but was not hospitalized.

A court date has been set for Sept. 10.

Charges also are pending against the other juvenile involved in the incident, police said.
