BLACKSBURG MAN CONVICTED OF BUYING, SELLING LIVESTOCK WITHOUT PERMIT

A Blacksburg man was convicted in Giles County Circuit Court of buying and selling livestock without a permit.

Rickey Alexander Comer received a six-month jail sentence last week and a $1,000 fine, both of which were suspended on the condition that he pay court costs and not trade livestock for a year.

Comer, 31, pleaded guilty to dealing livestock during 1992 and 1993 at the Narrows Livestock Market without a required permit from the state veterinarian.

He is scheduled to be tried next week in Rockbridge County General District Court on an animal cruelty charge that also involves livestock.

Comer is accused of leaving two cows without food or water in the back of a pickup after the vehicle broke down.
