INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT ON BOARD'S AGENDA

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will discuss several industrial development projects Monday at 7 p.m. in the County Courthouse.

The supervisors are scheduled to buy an industrial site for future development adjacent to Falling Branch Elementary School, as they had agreed to do at their June 28 meeting.

The 141-acre tract, near Interstate 81, is owned by Dale and Freda Teel. It has a sale price of $850,878, or $6,000 an acre. The county already has begun work on preparing the site for development in hopes of attracting a major industry to the area.

The board also will discuss possible bond referendum projects, including money to finance industrial development.

Later, in executive session, the supervisors plan to discuss acquiring additional property for an industrial site.

One somewhat controversial issue, initially scheduled for discussion Monday night, probably will be postponed because of the expected absence of one supervisor.

A proposed animal control ordinance that would allow hunting dogs and some other dogs to run at large has drawn both vocal support and opposition at earlier supervisors' meetings, but it probably will be tabled until a later meeting, according to County Manager Betty Thomas.

Other items for board consideration include:

Architectural reports on both the health and human services building and the Blacksburg area branch library.

The effect of the new Family and Medical Leave Act on county employees.
