BICYCLE CLUB SCHEDULES RIDES

The New River Valley Bicycle Club has announced its schedule of rides for the remainder of August. The club will also hold its monthly meeting Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Blacksburg Library.

The schedule for the month is as follows:

\ Every Wednesday in August: Women's Social Ride and Social Ride for Insignificant Others. Riders will meet at the Virginia Tech Chapel at 6 p.m. and decide on the route and where to meet to socialize afterward. Call Christina Baum at 745-3572 for details.

\ Next Saturday: Bradshaw-Catawba Ride. A 57-mile ride through two beautiful valleys at a 15 mph pace. Meet at the Tech Chapel at 8 a.m. Call ride leader Tim Myers at 951-5285 for details.

\ Aug. 21: Mountains of Misery. An 80- to 100-mile ride with several steep climbs over numerous mountains. Meet at the Newport Recreation Center at 7 a.m. Call ride leader Erik Gronning at 951-7618 for details.

\ Aug. 28: Catawba Loop. A 45-mile loop from Blacksburg to Catawba via Harding Ave. (out) and Mount Tabor Road (return). Meet at the Tech Chapel at 8 a.m. Call ride leader Paul Smith at 951-7825 for details.

\ Aug. 29: Picnic at Mabry Mill. An easy-paced 50-mile ride to the mill via the Blue Ridge Parkway. Arrival is scheduled at 2 p.m. with a picnic to follow. Meet at the Tech Chapel at 9:30 a.m. For ride leader Dow Scott at 552-4607 for details and to arrange for food and a return ride to Blacksburg.
