FRANKLIN COUNTY GIRL STRUCK AND KILLED

A 14-year-old Franklin County girl was struck by a car and killed late Thursday while she was walking along Virginia 116, according to Virginia State Police.

Sheri Ann Messina, of Valley View Park in Franklin County, was struck by a car driven by Clifford Joseph Roach around 11 p.m., police said.

The car was headed north on Virginia 116 when it hit Messina near the intersection of Virginia 974, near Kennett. Messina was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

It was not known Friday night whether any charges would be filed.
