ARSENAL WORK FORCE TO BE CUT BY 16

Army officials announced Friday that, in an effort to cut costs, its civilian work force at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant will be reduced by 16 people.

Most of the cutbacks will be done through an early retirement plan that was accepted by 14 workers.

Only two employees will be laid-off involuntarily, according to a news release. Those workers were given notice Monday and their jobs will end Oct. 14.

The Radford plant employs 36 Army civilian employees.

Hercules, the contractor at the plant, has about 2,000 workers.
