OBIT RICE, PAUL W.
RICE, Paul W. 76, of Roanoke, died suddenly Monday afternoon, August 9,
1993. He was retired Branch Manager for Fruehauf Trailer Company and a veteran
of the Navy during World War II. He graduated from Roanoke College in 1939
where he played basketball and was a member of the "FIVE SMART BOYS." In 1988
he was elected to the Virginia State Sports Hall of Fame and was active in the
FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Brown Rice,
Roanoke; son and daughter in-law, Paul W. (Pete) III and Alice Rice, Salem;
stepgrandchildren, John Bryant, Aleace Bryant, Mary Minnix and husband
Timothy; stepgreat-grandson, Andrew Minnix; sister in-law, Virginia Rice,
Pulaski. Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Episcopal Church (corner
of Franklin Rd. and Washington Ave.) at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr.
James Henry officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family
suggests that memorials be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, P.O. Box
510, Roanoke, Va. 24003. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
