OBIT ARCHER, RUBY HAGBOM

ARCHER, Ruby Hagbom, 74, of Narrows, died Sunday afternoon, August 8, 1993, in the Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg following a sudden illness. She was born in Chicago, Ill. on October 1, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Carl R. and Evelyn Strand Hagbom. She was the widow of Dr. John A. Carr and Clarence E. Archer. She was a past member of the Narrows Garden Club and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows where she played the piano for the Sunday School classes for many years. In addition to assisting with the United Way and playing bridge in several bridge clubs, she was an active golfing member of the Giles County Club. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara C. and N. Lyon Whitman of Glyndon, Md. and Catherine C. and Stephen M. Smith of Mechanicsville; a stepdaughter, Susan L. Archer, Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Catherine and Hether Whitman, Brian and Eric Smith. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Narrows, with the Rev. Ralph M. Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will meet their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Tuesday evening from 6 until 9.
