BRENDA M. WILLIAMS has been promoted to branch officer with Signet Bank at 852 W. Main St.

Williams is a graduate of Radford University with a bachelor's degree in marketing and management. She joined Signet in 1987 as a customer sales representative.

\ JOHN R. GIBSON, general manager of the Roanoke Valley office of Mennel Milling Co., has received the company's "Milling Operative of the Year" award. The award is given to the miller who has made outstanding contributions to his plant, company and the milling industry.

\ VICKIE SHAVELY of Salem Blinds and Design has earned the title of Certified Alternative Window Coverings Consultant for expertise in the area of shades, blinds and shutters.

She was awarded certification after passing a comprehensive test covering selling skills, product knowledge and decorating.

\ VICKI A. STINETTE of Salem was named Volunteer of the Year for her work in the community for the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division Inc.

Stinette, who has been a volunteer for more than five years, is the secretary of the roanoke/Franklin unit. She also assists with fund-raising, service and rehabilitation, and public education.

\ CHRISTOPHER B. HELMER has joined The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York as a field underwriter. Helmer recently earned a degree in business administration from Roanoke College. He will service client principally in the Roanoke area.

\ BUD BOWLES of Roanoke has been honored by L.B. Smith, Inc. at its annual Eagles' Club Award Dinner. The award honors outstanding sales representatives for their achievements in solving customers' needs. L.B. Smith, Inc. is a distributor of multiline heavy construction, mining and quarry equipment.

\ TONYA COLES and LISA OTEY have been named winners in Winn-Dixie's Favorite Cashier Award Program. Coles works at the Troutville store and Otey at the Vinton store. The awards were based on customer voting during two weeks in June.

\ TOM WALLACE, franchise owner of the 12 Domino's Pizza stores in Roanoke, Lynchburg and Lexington, was awarded the Silver Franny Award for operational excellence by the pizza delivery company.

The executive team of Domino's Pizza chooses to award the Silver Franny to franchisees for sales performance, audit scores, community involvement, store safety and security levels and store crew morale.

\ OPTICAL CABLE CORP. is celebrating it's 10-year anniversary as a manufacturer of buffered fiber optic cables.

Founded in 1983 by Robert Kostein and a partner, the Roanoke company serves as the international corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility.

The cables are made for use in data communications, Local Area Networks, military, telephone and video applications.

\ THE ROANOKE TIMES & WORLD-NEWS PINPOINT TARGET MARKETING has earned the Publishers Express Quality Award for the lowest customer complaints among similar companies.

The award was presented to Operations Manager Ed Scott at the annual Publishers Express meeting in Atlanta in May.

Publishers Express is a Time Warner Inc. company which provides magazine and catalog subscribers with an alternative delivery system to the United States Postal Service..

\ JOSEPH I. GILKISON and ROBERT A. WHITE, members of the Roanoke Valley Association of Life Underwriters, have received recognitions.

Gilkison, associated with Insurance Services, was named Outstanding Life Underwriter of the year by the Roanoke association. White received the state association's Outstanding Service Award for his contribution to the success and growth of the local association.

\ THE MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY OF NEW YORK has announced the following 1992-93 Honor Club qualifiers from the Roanoke agency: Leon Louthen, Frank Foley, Linnie Hall, Chris Caveness, Reg Hutcherson and Tony Mullins.

Jones, a 1984 Roanoke College graduate, provides loss-control services for ITT Hartford customers throughout Southwest, central, Western and Southside Virginia.

\ SALEM BANK AND TRUST has named Laura Anderson, Edie Saunders, Debra Assenat and Dianne Arant administrative assistants.

Anderson works in the main office in downtown Salem, and Saunders works in the West Main Street branch office. Assenat is with the Oak Grove branch, and Arant is in the bookkeeping department.
