THE REV. SAM HARRIS, pastor of Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Salem since its organization in 1985, has left for a new ministry at Valley Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tenn. Faith Evangelical, which was formed as a result of the national merger of northern and southern branches of the Presbyterian Church, worships at Eighth Street and Carolina Avenue in Salem.

\ CHRISTIAN LIFE FELLOWSHIP MEMBERS placed in six categories in a national talent competition held in July in Jacksonville, Fla. Winners from the Pentecostal Holiness congregation were: Glenvar High senior Noel Dillard, first in drama and third in clarinet; and Destiny Choir, second for small choral groups. The Higher Call choir, Chasity Bealor, vocal soloist; Bealor and April Riddleberger, duet; and the Horns of Praise instrumental ensemble, were all honorable mentions.

\ CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 845 Hemlock Road, Salem, has scheduled its vacation Bible school Sunday through Friday evenings from 6:30 to 9. The classes in Bible and crafts will climax with a block party on Aug. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a hot air balloon. Call 387-4417 for more information.

Calvary Church, for many years on Tazewell Avenue in Southeast Roanoke, will observe its 110th birthday Aug. 22 beginning at 11 a.m. Following potluck dinner at 6 p.m., a former pastor, the Rev. Floyd Murphy, will present a musical variety program.

\ WEST SALEM BAPTIST CHURCH is preparing to send a team of members to Recife, Brazil, early next year. The congregation has raised funds to build a church in the Brazilian city.
