NAVY FIREMAN JERRY A. HUTCHINSON, son of Alfred and Linda Hutchinson of New Castle, is participating in Operation Restore Hope, a peace-keeping mission off the coast of Somalia, as part of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.

Hutchinson, a 1990 graduate of Craig County High School, is stationed aboard the amphibious cargo ship USS El Paso, based in Norfolk.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DAVON C. NICHOLSON, son of Diana L. Nicholson of Roanoke, has completed basic training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Nicholson is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ NAVY CMDR. RICHARD C. RUSH, son of Charles C. Rush Jr. of Roanoke, has been named commanding officer of the guided missile frigate USS Stark, based in Mayport, Fla.

Rush previously was assigned to the AEGIS Training Center in Dahlgren.

\ MARINE LANCE CPL. JEFFREY D. BAYSE, son of Denna S. Bayse of 2222 Charlevoix Court and Frank M. Bayse of Radford, has reported for duty in Okinawa. He is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS WINIFRED L. BLANEY, daughter of Winfred H. Blaney of Catawba, has reported for duty at Naval Air Station, San Diego.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JONATHAN DOUGLAS BOOTH, son of Guy D. Booth of Roanoke and Brenda L. McDaniel of Salem, has reported for duty at Fort Meade, Md.

\ AIRMAN JAMES H. JOHNSON III, son of Pamela J. Leffler of 602 Front St., Salem, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.

\ AIRMAN JAMES W. FLETCHER V, son of Martha Yates of 802 Pineridge Road, Vinton, and James W. Fletcher IV of Alexandria, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.

\ AIRMAN LARRY D. MAYS, son of Doris K. Mays of 3332 Melody Ave., has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1990 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ SGT. MICHAEL D. PRESTON, son of Isabel Preston of 411 Third St. N.W., has re-enlisted in the Army for four years. He is a 1986 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
