\ THE REV. DR. HUGH JOHNSON, church development specialist with the Protestant Church in Algeria, will speak Sunday at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at Huntington Court United Methodist Church. Accompanied by his wife, Fritzi, Johnson is supported by several United Methodist congregations. He also teaches at a Catholic center and works with a Bible society.

\ CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 845 Hemlock Road, Salem, has scheduled its vacation Bible school Sunday through Friday evenings from 6:30 to 9. The classes in Bible and crafts will climax with a block party on Aug. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a hot air balloon. Call 387-4417 for more information.

Calvary Church, for many years on Tazewell Avenue in Southeast Roanoke, will observe its 110th birthday Aug. 22 beginning at 11 a.m. Following potluck dinner at 6 p.m., a former pastor, the Rev. Floyd Murphy, will present a musical variety program.
