POLITICALLY INCORRECT FUNNY PAGES

I COMMEND the editors of the Roanoke Times & World-News for the decision, announced August 25, to discontinue the Outland comic strip. Male chauvenism should never be so blatantly exposed.

I further recommend that the editors consider the following comic strips for decommissioning because they are offensive to many special-interest groups and individuals:

Cathy - Career woman portrayed as indecisive, inept and paranoid.

Garfield - Honest clean-living young man controlled by a bad cat.

Funky Winkerbean - Implies that a high-school band director plays better sax than President Clinton.

Wizard of Id - Insensitive to short people in positions of authority.

Shoe - Too politically correct

Calvin - Discourages budding sociopaths.

Andy - United Kingdom males already have a better role model in Prince Charles.

Pepless Propriety on Campus - this July 26 editorial managed to offend Virginia Tech, UVa, Elvis fans, senior citiizens and the good old days all in one fell swoop!
