Virginia's Southwest Blue Ridge Highlands has put together a brochure offering discounts for resorts, motels, bed-and-breakfast inns, campgrounds and the New River Cruise Co., said VSBRH President Kitty Grady of Wytheville.
Members in VSBRH come from counties and cities throughout Southwest Virginia and the New River Valley.
The brochure is available to those who join the VSBRH honors program, Grady said.
An example, she said, is the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, which uses its membership to get discounts for annual conferences and meetings in the region. Its members use the discounts in planning their own personal vacations are are encouraged to give their own employees discount brochures as employee benefits.
Progress Press of Roanoke distributes the discount brochure to every employee in the company. Virginia Impressions Products of Richmond gives away brochures to potential customers at trade shows as an incentive to buy from that company.
Grady said the discounts bring people to businesses in the brochure and get more money spent on tourism in the region. It lets businesses support the region while getting a benefit for employees, she said.
The program was developed by representatives from AT&T, Southwest Virginia Small Business Development Center, Virginia Tech Public Service Department and Jefferson National Forest.
