STATE HOMES SALES UP 5.2%

Homes sales rose 5.2 percent in June across Virginia, the Virginia Association of Realtors reported last week. The number of homes placed under contract was 5,905, up from 5,615 in June 1992. For the first half of the year, 34,415 sales contracts were written, up 0.7 percent against 34,165 a year earlier.

"We are benefiting from a unique market condition," said VAR president Edward E. Pagett. "Most often you hear the real estate market described as a buyer's market or a seller's market. Right now we have both. Buyers are securing very attractive interest rates and sellers are experiencing a resurgence in buyer interest."
