The public is invited to a number of events, including a free Lynchburg Symphony pops concert on Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m. The concert features solos by nationally acclaimed soprano Carol Gutknecht, who graduated from the school in 1967.
The concert will be held in the Dell. In case of rain, it will be moved to Smyth Auditorium.
Other highlights include a Centennial Chapel Service on Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Houston Memorial Chapel on campus.
On Sept. 13, at 4:30 p.m., the Centennial Convocation will feature faculty awards and the college chorale. Vignettes about the first half-dozen professors who taught at the college will be performed.
The private liberal-arts college was the first endowed college for women in Virginia and enrolls about 700 students from more than 40 states and 20 foreign countries.
