VINTON NATIONAL TEAM OUSTED FROM DIXIE YOUTH WORLD SERIES

The Vinton Nationals, representing Virginia, were eliminated from the Dixie Youth League 11-12 World Series at West Montro, La., after a 5-4 loss in seven innings to Arkansas on Tuesday.

Vinton lost 1-0 to Alabama in Monday's opening round when a solo homer in the fifth inning supplied the game's only run. Brad Gusler and Matt McGuire combined to pitch a six-hitter for Vinton, the two-time state champs.

On Tuesday night, Vinton got the leadoff batter to third in the seventh inning with no outs but couldn't bring him in. With the score still 4-4, Arkansas got a hit, an error and another base hit with two outs to bring in the winner.

McGuire finished 3-for-4 and Blake Davis went 2-for-3.
