REPORTED EARNINGS

Rowe Furniture Corp., Arlington-based manufacturer with operations in Salem, said Wednesday that net shipments for the third quarter ending Aug. 30 are expected to exceed $20.5 million, up from $18.1 million in the 1992 quarter. Earnings per share were estimated at 18-19 cents per share against 7 cents per share in the 1992 quarter. Earnings per share reflect a 3-for-2 stock split paid on Jan. 15, 1993.

\ Charming Shoppes

Charming Shoppes Inc., the retail women's apparel chain, on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $20.6 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with $21.7 million, or 20 cents per share for the 1992 quarter. Sales were $308.6 million, up 7 percent from $289.6 million.

For the first six months, net income was up 8 percent to $40.8 million, or 38 cents per share, from $37.9 million, or 35 cents per share, for the 1992 period. Sales rose 6 percent, to $583.9 million from $552.1 million.

The company opened 51 stores from February to July, bringing the total number to 1,248 at the end of the quarter.

\ Roanoke Electric Steel

Roanoke Electric Steel Corp., Roanoke-based maker of specialty steel products, on Wednesday reported third-quarter net earnings of $1.2 million, or 22 cents per share, compared to $926,289, or 17 cents per share, in the 1992 quarter. Sales were $40.9 million, up 6 percent from $38.6 million.

For the first nine months, net earnings were $2.65 million, or 50 cents per share, compared to $1.39 million, or 26 cents per share, for the 1992 period. Sales were $117.9 million, up 11 percent from $106.7 million.
