The members of Ladies Auxiliary of Blue Ridge Post 484, Veterans of Foreign Wars, recently installed Rhoda Woodson president for 1993-94.

Navy veteran named chaplain for hospice
William E. Baker, a 12-year veteran of the Navy Chaplain Corps, has been named the first full-time chaplain with the Good Samaritan Hospice.
Baker, former dean of students at the University of Richmond, also served in Navy hospitals in Bethesda, Md.; Newport, R.I.; and Beaufort, S.C. He served as chief aide to the families of President Reagan and Vice President Bush during the 1981 inauguration.
He also served on the staff of Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger in 1986.
Good Samaritan is a community-based health-care agency that helps terminally ill patients remain at home.
MDA needs volunteers for Labor Day telethon
Volunteers are needed to help run carnival games for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon Sept. 6.
The activities to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be held in front of the Professional Park One building at the corner of Virginia 419 and Starkey Road.
Items also are requested for a yard sale that will held during the telethon. All proceeds will go to MDA families in the Roanoke area.
